Re-thinking English Studies: Paradigms & Paradoxes

Re-thinking English Studies: Paradigms & Paradoxes

The Department of English studies of the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences Saïs-Fes organizes, on March 14th and 15th, 2019, a conference under the theme :

Re-thinking English Studies: Paradigms & Paradoxes

The aim of this two-day conference is to provide a platform for participants from various disciplinary fields to
confront arguments related to current and prospective mode(s) of existence of English Studies within
Moroccan Arts Faculties, and well outside.
Imperatively drafted into the (post) modernizing changes brought about by "digitalization" and
"globalization, " for over two decades now, English Studies have had to face up to budding graduate

unemployment by adjusting to job market demands (beyond the teaching profession), and thus raising ever-
increasing questionings about the future and very relevance of the schools of Humanities themselves,

notwithstanding the recent institutionalization of the language as a key component of academic literacy, across
all disciplines.
Re-thinking English Studies is hence concerned with re-mapping this multi-faceted cognitive field, and more
broadly with re-assessing the role of English itself, as a distinct discipline and factor of national development,
in identity formation and glocalizing consciousness.
Ontology and pedagogy are herein enlisted as a means of offering frameworks for probing tentative answers
to such key conference tracks as:

• Re-Defining/Re-visiting English Studies
• Current EFL & ESP Problematics
• Re-evaluating the curriculum
• (Inter-/Cross-) Disciplining English Studies
